Track: ‘Sidewalk Safari’ by Chairlift (Listen here)
Average grade: 5.8
Anna: Electronic pop caught somewhere between generic and annoyingly all over the place, this is one that made me yawn and feel irritated at the same time. I guess this is a feat of some kind...
Grade: 3
Craig: Current pop music has been unabashedly borrowing from the 80s for some time now, and while this song definitely nods to the decade's more jokey, self-aware sound (in my opinion), it takes inspiration rather than simply replicating what's been done before. This originality is evident immediately in the wild, bent guitar notes of the song's opening, and continues being driven by the upbeat percussion. I also love how well-produced the vocals are; the singer has a beautiful voice.

Stef: I like the mix at the start between soft electro-pop and a bit of a rock sensibility, which never really lets up through drumming and the guitar that every so often comes in. This while it is in essence a bit of a dream pop thingy I feel, but those rawer elements give it a fun balance. With that said, the core of the dream pop with the “I’m on a sidewalk safari” part are not too great to be honest. But as a whole, a fun listen.
