Crazy Zany Radio Sunday - 'Total Decay' by The Soft Moon

Every week our contributors will voice their opinion concerning one song, it’s a simple as that! The more the merrier, so people are always welcome to join in, just leave a note, eh?

Track of the week: ‘Total Decay’ by The Soft Moon (listen here)
Average grade: 8

Craig: I love the atmosphere this song creates--eerie and hollow with a cool goth element.  Industrial.  The distorted synths hum like bone saws in the distance.  The ethereal vocals layered within the mesh of effects evoke madness, long black hallways leading to smoky, strobe-lit dancefloors.  Perfect, if you're sitting alone in the dark in an evil mood.  Bleak.
9/10

Anna: The world is ending. Mountains are collapsing, archipelagos are drying up, Pitchfork is imploding and this song is on. Bang on.
Grade: 7

Ilse: About as great as their older work when it comes to getting me in the 'zoning'-modus instantly ('zoning': a term I, among others, use for getting into a trance or a state in which you become 'one' with the music and think of nothing else - how retarded that may sound), though this track misses the clear, more upbeat and post-punk reminiscent, drum(machine) patterns/structures I tremendously enjoyed on their eponymous album.

Stef: Oh gosh, I do love this actually. The drone, the vocals are right on the money for this kind of song. It also definitely creates an atmosphere. It has been a long while since I’ve been so enthusiastic about this kind of music. I would’ve loved it if the vocals would’ve made an appearance in the last half of the song though, that would’ve put it over the top for me.
