Crazy Zany Radio Sunday - Immaterial by Lonelady

Het concept is heel simpel: een groep mensen luistert naar hetzelfde nummer en iedereen geeft z’n mening, alsof we samen in een kamer zitten en het nummer komt langs op de radio. Stein zei a bus is a bus is a bus, en sommige vonden het post-modernisme, andere vonden het onleesbaar. Sommige vinden Duchamp’s Fontein kunst, sommige vinden het onzin. Stein sloeg Duchamp’s neus eraf en zette het op zijn kop, en zij vond het hilarisch, en Duchamp een stuk minder. Kortom, iedereen vindt iets anders leuk of kunst of mooi. Dus vandaar hier zes meningen in zes stijlen, en zet jouw mening over het nummer vooral hieronder, of join the team voor deze column, the more the merrier! En ja, meestal zal iedereen het oneens zijn, maar daarom blijft muziek in flux, nietwaar?

Track of the week: “Immaterial” by Lonelady (listen here)
Average grade: 5

Jox: Well, this seems like the sort of track I should really love. But I don't. It just seems too flat, too riddled with mid-atlantic confusion, too boring. It's like a Tori Amos track without any of the flair. I just spent the last 1 minute 30 waiting for the end.

Linda: This rips off so many artist that I can't even begin to list them. Still, I really like this song, though that might just be the Alanis Morissette-like vocals causing me to feel all sentimental about a much simpler time when guys were just guys and my mother still made my sandwiches in the morning.
7.2/10

Jon: I didn't know the artist when Stef posted this weeks song, and I haven't googled her as I want to judge the music alone. And on that note I can say that I'm impressed by both the vocals and the music. I like that this artist brings something a little different to the table. She's dared to tamper with structure, instrumentation and above all she isn't desperately trying to impress us with vocal gymnastics. Her vocal tone is sweet, my only worry is how well she can transfer this promise to the live stage.

Anna: I'm going to need an ear-therapist after this one. If you know a good one, please contact the editor of this column, who will also pick up the bill. Only serious and discreet professionals, please.

Stef: I actually thought the track quite decent until I listened to it a final time when the way she sings “im-ma-te-rial” starts to grate. Because she does say it like that, in syllables. And she has the tendency to do that actually. Now I’m confused as to what to give it. Now that I’ve read Linda saying she sounds like Alanis Morissette, gosh yes, that she does in any case.
