de-Affaire a go for 2012

The free festival de-Affaire, held annually in Nijmegen, will be back for its 26th year. Despite financial difficulties plaguing the festival in recent years they have done well enough this year to ensure another season. This year’s festival (which we covered extensively, look on the main page for that) saw stand-outs like Washed Out and Little Dragon perform.

The festival caught a break when the disastrous weather forecasts were not as hellish as predicted, but it did fail to rake in a lot of money via its donation plan. For 25 euros you could purchase a free week pass for the ferry to the other side of the river (where there was another stage), and by doing so you would help the festival out financially. Only a few people did this, which was a disappointment for the organisation. A pay-what-you-want scheme did seem to work at a different free festival earlier this year, but the organisation opted for the fixed donation of 25 euros so that they would be able to give the people something in return. Obviously, this backfires slightly when you become aware that not everyone has a desire to go to the Habana stage at the other side of the river. And instead of donating, you feel like you’re purchasing something you don’t need, you have no interest in, and actually you’d much rather put a little something something in a donation box at the entrance.

Also, you can suggest acts for 2012 via their Facebook page (which you can find here). Warpaint, Tune-Yards and the Whitest Boy Alive seem to be among the favourites.

No no, you can suggest acts if you have Facebook, and I do not, in effect, have FB. Those 3 would be fine though, I had a little peak on someone else's FB account and the top acts then were, imho, not quite that much fun. (a) My wishlist would definitely be patch up Club Voerweg with a bigger dancefloor and better DJs. If you're going that route anyway.
