Stef over lijstjes:Lijstjes zijn een hot thing, daarbij zijn ze vaak ook even leuk als dat ze frustrerend zijn. “Dat album op één? Dat ding zoog zoooo hard. Maar dan niet dit album, zo belachelijk, die site is zo out of touch”. “Het beste album van het jaar”, ik vind dat altijd een beetje pompeus klinken. Want over wat al dan niet het beste album was, daar kan over gediscussieerd worden. Net als bij literatuur, of kunst, iets kan objectief goed en slecht zijn. Goede of slechte technieken, goed of minder goed doordachte ideeën. Uitdagend of mondain.
Wat je favoriete album was, dat is een persoonlijke keuze. Ik probeer ook altijd lijstjes te zien niet als een objectieve keuze van het beste album van het jaar, maar als het favoriete album van de desbetreffende publicatie. En als je de publicatie volgt en het vaak eens bent met hun mening, dan kan je misschien zo nog wat tips opdoen van albums die je vergeten was, of die je nog nooit hebt geluisterd, of het haalt je over om misschien het toch nog één keer te luisteren omdat je niet op dat punt had gelegd waardoor het album nou juist zo gevierd wordt. Zo ben ik zo het album Boxer van The National gaan luisteren, en de band werd één van mijn favoriete bands zeker van de 21ste eeuw.
Dus lees de opkomende lijst ook meer als een lijstje met tips van wat wij, Linda en ik, goede albums vonden. Welke albums bij ons persoonlijk het meest klikten, en misschien klikken ze bij jou ook. Let us know either way, en vooral waarom, want beide kanten horen van waarom een album klikte of niet is altijd interessant. Het is een simpel lijstje, per dag Linda's en mijn nummer tien, negen, etc, en zo een simpele top 10. Enjoy the holidays, enjoy the list!

Animal Collective (album and EP), Japandroids, Fuck Buttons (seriously, Street Horrrsing was way better than Tarot Sport, get over it), The Flaming Lips, The Horrors, Atlas Sound, Bat for Lashes, Micachu & the Shapes, Discovery (seriously?), Manic Street Preachers, Wild Beasts (again, seriously?), Arctic Monkeys, Muse, Passion Pit, the Antlers.
But these are worth listening to, though they didn’t make the final list:
Circlesquare, Phoenix, Neon Indian, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Handsome Furs, HEALTH, Dark Was the Night, Lotus Plaza, Antony & the Johnsons, The Field, Patrick Wolf, The Whitest Boy Alive, Franz Ferdinand.
Where have the Brits gone? So I finally move to London, and then the music moves away. Am I going to have to move to America now to be were it’s all happening? And were in America would I have to go then? In the UK everyone at least comes to London, if you haven’t played in London, you might as well haven’t played anywhere at all. America is just way too big: there’s New York, Los Angeles, Montreal (I’m including Canada in America), Chicago and numerous other cities which are way too far apart from each other for bands that are starting out to perform there.
