Every week our contributors will voice their opinion concerning one song, it’s a simple as that! The more the merrier, so people are always welcome to join in, just leave a note, eh.
Track of the week: ‘Just Enough’ van Julian Lynch (listen here)
Average grade: 4.4
Jon: A psychedelic mechanical menagerie which teases the musical taste buds nicely until the woeful whine that is the vocal hits. Is this guy in the animal collective? He sounds like he should be.
6.3/10
Anna: I almost fell asleep but alas, the tune is so bloody pretentious and frustrating that it won't even let me visit dreamland.
1/10
Craig: This guy lives in Madison, so I actually know him and have seen him play in several places around town. It's strange and exciting to see someone in our local circle of friends gain such popularity so quickly.
The sitar (is that a sitar?) over the droning sounds and vocals is pretty rad. I also like the trippy sporadic noises that interrupt the flow, but I don't think it's enough to keep my attention from waning as the song plods along. This is definitely good space-out music, but I'd prefer something a little more developed.
7/10
Linda: Rob Brydon's 'Small Man In A Box Voice' meets annoying guitar music.
2.2/10
Ilse: This is certainly not an unpleasant track, the ambient atmosphere has a relaxing effect, though after two and half minutes the monotony of the song starts to bore me, resulting into a feeling of headachy drowsiness, rather than actually feeling relaxed. So, yes pleasant, a bit more variety (or leaving out the last 30 seconds of the song) would've made it more appealing.
6.1/10
Stef: I’m more in the Anna camp on this one, though not quite as radical. I like clear, catchy music, so you can imagine from reading the comments above this not being quite my niche.
4/10
