Crazy Zany Radio Sunday - 'Never Pay for the Farm' by Gang of Four

Every week our contributors will voice their opinion concerning one song, it’s a simple as that! The more the merrier, so people are always welcome to join in, just leave a note, eh.

Track of the week: ‘Never Pay for the Farm’ by Gang of Four (listen here)
Average grade: 5.3

Linda: The lyrics seem a bit Kaiser Chiefs-level with slightly more credibility due to the fact that they once were deemed to be able to write proper songs. And if I may ask: what is this song about? Does it support vegetarianism? Is it a response to a petting zoo asking an entrance fee? Is it a protest against the unfair distribution of EU money towards our own farmers versus those in third world countries? (I'd love it to be the petting zoo) Nevertheless, it's not going to be a come back I'll be waiting for.

Ilse: It certainly sounds like they still got it, that same edge they had back in in the late 70s. So, you could say that for the hardcore fans Christmas came early this year. For me however it's as exciting as getting one of these hideous jumpers your grandmother makes herself during that time of year; because even though I do consider 'Entertainment!' a record every one should own and put on every now and then, I can't be bothered when it comes to them making a new album.
6.5/10

Anna: They're back! The crackling guitar dryness and the biting rhythm are back! This works like a tingling appetiser, and here's hoping that the rest of the album will feel our music bellies.
Dance, Franz, dance.
6.5/10

Craig: Old rock&rollers usually do it well, technically speaking, because they were among the front runners of a particular sound. They've earned respect and credibility in popular music history, but this also means a greater risk of relying on convention which I think Gang of Four do here. I'm not feeling the original band's passion on this, their third time reunited.
4/10

Stef: From hook laden to hook ridden in thirty years.
